Premier Classe brings a taste of the good life to Port Elizabeth.
Shosholoza Meyl, the long distance passenger train service is proud to announce the introduction of the new Premier Classe route between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. This was symbolised by the route introduction event held in Cape Town today, 05 December 2008.
The Premier Classe, having already established routes between Johannesburg and Cape Town as well as Durban, will extend its travel route to include Port Elizabeth. The new route schedule will be effective from today and the train will depart from Cape Town on Fridays and will return from Port Elizabeth on Sundays every week.
“From the moment you arrive in the warmth, comfort and safety of our Premier Classe lounge at Cape Town station, until you step into the Premier Classe, you will experience the refinement of luxury train travel. The adventure begins the moment guests are welcomed in the Premier Classe lounge in true South African fashion.” says Acting Head of Shosholoza Meyl, Matti Geldenhuys.
Soon after leaving the bustling metropolis of Cape Town, guests will be treated to majestic views as the train winds its way through the spectacular Garden Route, and cutting across the 250 kilometre long Swartberg Mountains range, which separates the Little Karoo Valley from the much drier Great Karoo. The ability to experience breathtaking scenery at leisure while dining or simply just relaxing, is the hallmark of rail travel.
On the Premier Classe, guests will be introduced to a world that recaptures the bygone era of elegant, luxury train travel and the superb personalised service.
The Premier Classe offers guests all the modern amenities that include air-conditioning in its sophisticated dining/lounge cars, a conference coach and a fully equipped smoking lounge with flip-down plasma screen and a DVD player, as well as more spacious compartments and lavishly appointed bathrooms.
The train also shows off its award-winning wines (voted Best Wine 2007 and 2008 by Diners Club International), and impressive cuisine.
“Rail travel remains inherently one of the better travel options in terms of safety, comfort and value for money. Shosholoza Meyl is continuously working towards improving the service offering to passengers by finding new ways to provide unparalleled peace of mind and value for money to travellers,” concludes Geldenhuys.
To share in the experience, bookings may be made by calling 086 000 88 88.
Editor’s note:
Shosholoza Meyl offers guests who wish to take their vehicles along, a specialised car wagon that carries most 4x4 and other off-road vehicles. This service will be introduced on the Cape/ Town Port Elizabeth route in the near future.
Special environmentally friendly LED lights have also been fitted throughout the coaches for book-loving guests, while the conference coach can be transformed into a dance / disco venue for after-hours entertainment.
